Wlf Travels - Hong Kong: A quick foodie guide

We've been travelling a bit lately and haven't been trying new places in our sunny island, sadly.
Humans are creatures of habit, so don't judge us when I say we've only been back to our favourites of Ember & Casa Tartufo :D

So we decided to come up with a few posts under "Wlf Travels" to share with you guys short lists of foodie places worth mentioning in different cities!

First up in this "series", we have the ever popular destination - vibrant and noisy Hong Kong!

I dare bet my calories that this is a hot favourite with Singaporeans, given its plethora of glorious food, accessibility and close proximity.

Flash sales by budget airlines definitely add to its popularity so... SCOOT FTW!

1) Hui Lau Shan:
(Xu Liu Shan as it is more commonly known)

The chain is know for their mango desserts, as the flesh used are always juicy, plump and fresh.
Mango desserts generally don't go wrong, especially Mango Sago ones,  but if you are watching your calories,  waste it only on the Mochi balls ;)
The Mochi balls are a must-have, with a soft chewy skin encasing fresh fat mango or durian, depending on your choice of sin.

There are many outlets across Hong Kong, and operating hours are usually between 11am - 12am.
So you can definitely get your mango craving fixed in between shopping!

ps. you can't miss their bright red and yellow logo!

2) Honolulu Cafe:
(also known as Honolulu Cha Chaan Teng)

It is always a tough choice between the scrumptious Bo Lo Bao stuffed with a cold butter slab and the flaky soft Dan Tat, so both we shall have *stuffs face*.

There are many outlets of Honolulu as well, but I prefer Stanley Street's as the area has my local favourites of Jenny Bakery biscuits, Tai Cheong egg tarts and Lan Fong Yuen tea house.

Of course, not forgetting the ubiquitous HK breakfast menu of the usual suspects:

A standard order would comprise:
Tong Xin Mian (Macaroni) with Luncheon meat
He Bao Dan (Overeasy eggs)
Plain buns that are great on their own!

3) Tsui Wah Restaurant:

Another popular chain in HK that serves a wide variety of food,
from Handmade yong tau foo to Pork chop on Spaghetti.

They are known for their high quality (and prices alike),
so it is not unusual to see it still packed late at night!

You see one of my favourites here: the humble Shrimp wanton mee.
Humble bowl that packs a punch that is.

I bey you can't find something as tasty as this in SG!
Firm and bouncy noodles coupled with plump fresh dumplings soaked in a slow cooked broth...
Mmmm hmm.

Enjoy that with a local Yuen Yang or Iced Lemon tea, and your meal will be perfect.

4) Jenny Bakery biscuits:
(Aka Xiao Xiong Bing)

Don't say good stuff I never share ah.
This tin of soft, buttery cookies will be finished in seconds once opened!!!

Look out for this bear on the tins used and be prepared to queue up.
You can only buy limited tins, usually under 4 tins per pax.

They have in 4 or 8 flavours; I find the 4 mix one is good enough.
Also note that they only have 2 outlets - one at Sheung Wan and the other Tsim Shai Tsui.
Any other places selling them would definitely be resellers at a higher price.

And.... happy CNY y'all; meh the huat be with you.
Quickly wish everyone first before it's over..
cos we don't know when the next post will be!
